Chilean Professional Basketball Report: Update for Aug 24

Professional basketball pre-season is underway, uncertainty is getting clearer. DIMAYOR and Liga Nacional are being formed, yes, two parallel leagues. Live televised games help to improve the exposure and funding.

DIMAYOR 2011-2012 season, the mature but returning Professional League, finished in April 2012, in the midst of a restructuration. The parallel Liga Nacional tournament also finished a long 5 months season. Most players competed on different leagues.

Español Talca recently decided to move from DIMAYOR to Liga Nacional. Español was dissolved after the DIMAYOR postseason, most players reinforced nearby Maxibásquetbol Chillán.

Currently, semi professional Basketball leagues are underway, only allowing nationals, and divided in regions. The qualified teams go to the Professional Leagues to start later this year.

Chilean Basketball Report: Update for Aug 23

I got the news and buzz of Chilean Basketball for you in english. A lot is happening and uncertainty is getting clearer. Dimayor and Liga Nacional are being formed, women have a fairly competitive league as well, but not surprisingly, have two leagues. Live televised games helped to improve the coverage and exposure. Minors have competitive tournaments too. The National teams lowered the age limit for a projection to the future, but collected lots of baskets and losses.

DIMAYOR season, the mature Professional League, finished in April 2012, in the midst of a transitional 2011-2012 season. The Liga Nacional tournament also finished a long 5 months season. Currently, semi professional leagues are underway, only allowing nationals, and divided in regions.

But the regular person is interested in the REAL Professional leagues, the one on for their city, with spectacular foreign players, and classic rivalries.

Since April 2012, the Professional Leagues are over, but the semi-pro, nationals-only leagues are underway, I will give you a summary of the current situation, and whatever happens in between weeks, including:

On Tuesday, May 15, DIMAYOR (Division Mayor del Basquetbol) had presidential elections, and after 33 years as Chairman, Luis Cerda stepped down, being relaced by Juan Manuel Bravo (Industrial Engineer, related to Universidad de Concepción)

XLVIII Feria Arte Popular

This is the last weekend of the Fair, you can find some items in sale, but the best are probably gone, still, you can get in touch with the artisans, they may take orders, that is the beauty of this Fair: you can reach the artists, it is not just a shop.

Viva Dichato
In order to continue helping the reconstruction process of the devastated Dichato Bay, the Festival "Viva Dichato" will run every Saturday, with famous popular bands performing live, including radio transmissionn and nationwide TV (from 23:30). You need to get your free invitations on any of several locations on the Region VIII.

New Year 2011 in Talcahuano by Sergio Benítez

On major cities in the Region VIII, fireworks shows can be seen on New Year's Eve, but also Friday 30, others later on Sunday 1st. Traditional and new, the people will enjoy and have to get used to, since fireworks have been banned to civilians for years, due to a campaign not to be burned, specially children.

On Primera Division
CD UDECONCE hosts Current Champion and leader of the Apertura Tournament: Universidad Católica. The locals are tied THIRD-LAST position, and announced the release of Coach Riffo, for former [*D. La Serena] Coach Victor Castañeda.

Huachipato visits La Calera, which is running out of steam but still undefeated on ther top, both fighting to keep their position inside the Playoffs.

On Primera B Division:

April 24th weekend Sports Report from the Greater Concepcion Area.

On Primera Division, mediocre 14th positioned CD UDECONCE visited Wanderers and lost again, very regular, bad campaign on away games, reaching a tied THIRD-LAST position, both switching sides.

Huachipato tied 1-1 versus Cobreloa, keeping its tied 7th position and making the short Playoffs.

The Under 19 Womens World Cup to be played July 21-31st in Puerto Montt celebrated the groups lottery for the 16 national teams this March 18.

Chile was selected in Group C with Australia, France and Nigeria.

The Copa Chile deadline for applications ended March 18, the different groups will be sorted by geography. Kickoff is April 26.

The Under 19 Womens World Cup to played July 21-31st in Puerto Montt will host also the lottery for the groups for the 16 national teams this March 18.

The scheduled kickoff for Copa Chile is April 26, but the machine has been set in motion. So many teams have already applied, the  deadline is March 18, more deadlines are to be expiring and the stages being burnt to come up with the different groups sorted by geography.

Rodrigo Espinoza and Patricio Arroyo, experienced and probably the sixth man of Boston College were the top scorers in the winner. Young Franco Morales scored 24 in the looser in the first of best-of-five Playoff Series of Liga Nacional Basquetbol Movistar.
